How does Tarot work?

No one knows!

Some Tarot readers are psychic and use their gift to convey messages through the cards.

Some Tarot readers study the cards and use their knowledge and intuition to read.

Some say that we are all connected and this energy gets tapped into during a reading.

There are probably as many different theories as there are decks!

Is Tarot evil?

Many people still have an image of the Tarot reader, a shawl on her head, bangles jingling, turning over the Death card and foretelling doom and gloom.

While this works well in fiction to add an air of mystery, the Death card rarely foretells physical death. Instead it points towards endings and new beginnings - sweeping away the old to make way from the new.

There’s no getting away from the fact that some people can be scared by the Tarot, but it isn’t evil. A Tarot deck is simply a pack of cards - card conveying an image.

How do you read the cards?

When a Tarot reader consults the cards, we usually lay out the cards in a spread. Cards are laid out in a pattern that helps us look at the messages coming through. Of course there are exceptions to the rule and sometimes a random falling of cards is just as effective.

Once the cards are laid out, after shuffling and cutting the deck, we start the reading. This is the difficult part to describe, as each reader has his or her own way of reading. I will describe the cards to you then give you my interpretation of their meaning.
